Coincident with the release of new DNS2Go client software, the company also launched a retooled online DNS2Go Account Manager and introduced additional licensing options. The most notable change in the service allows users to establish custom DNS and custom MX records. This oft-demanded feature will benefit customers in several configuration environments. For example, users who wish to host their own email, but outsource website or application hosting for their domain, can establish a custom DNS record to direct all requests for their website or application to the contracted third party.
All email destined for the domain will be directed to the customer's mail server at their own public-facing IP address.In the reverse situation, where users wish to host their own web or application server but outsource email, creation of a custom MX record will work in the same manner. Use of custom MX records allow users to redirect email only to a third party host while continuing to receive all other requests for their domain directly."The DNS2Go customer base is comprised largely of power users and small to medium sized businesses," said Mike Deerfield, Chief Executive Officer of Deerfield.com.
